Since (fully functional) PSN finally returned to us in the past week, I was finally able to get my paws on all of the DLC that has so far been released for DW7, including the good old Japanese voice track!
I had some vague idea about doing a ~proper analysis~ of everything therein, but as I am horribly lazy, I'm just going to leave it at a few bullet points:
- Jiang Wei is a watashi-user. Color me unsurprised.
- Nobody addresses him by his style name in the JP track, but this is also complicated a bit by the fact that not very many people address him by name to start with, and most of those who do probably wouldn't be likely to use his style anyway. Zhuge Liang and Liu Shan both outrank him, and are thus perfectly in the bounds of politeness using his given name. The Jin characters would not be expected to give a fuck about showing him respect. So... /kanyeshrug
- However! He does pretty clearly introduce himself with his style name in Japanese. Not
quite in the way I've rolled with it so far; he doesn't give both names separately, but instead just gives his own name as "Kyo Hakuyaku," which would translate out to "Jiang Boyue." I'm...probably not going to change how I'm doing it, because I'd rather be consistent, but the main point is that the style is
there.
- His voice is so much better in Japanese, holy shit. Scenes that used to be painful to watch are so much better now. I'm just operating on the assumption that when he talks in camp, you're hearing Hisayoshi Suganuma and not Darrel Guilbeau, because it causes so much less pain in my soul that way.
IN OTHER NEWS: we got an announcement for a new DW game at E3, on the PSVita! It sounds as if this will indeed be its own thing, unrelated to DW7Special for PSP.
